Several students accepted the Library's challenge to read a book and turn it into a prize-winning book trailer. Students were to read a book of their own choosing, develop a storyboard and create a promotional book trailer using movie editing software. Although workshops teaching the basics of design and production were offered to the students, most of the work was done on the student's own time. Entries were judged anonymously by staff members and the results are in. First Place and a $100 Visa gift card goes to Allison Kline for her trailer, To Kill a Mockingbird ; 2nd Place and the $50.00 gift card is awarded to Kameron Reeves for his trailer based on the book Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie; 3rd Place and the $25.00 gift card goes to Brittany Brickus for her book trailer Something Girl. South Brandywine Alumni Making Strides and Excelling in Track and Field at Coatesville Area Senior High

Pictured for left to right, Armond Owens, Dennis Crutchfield, Colin Gaffney, and Robert Yancy.
These South Brandywine Alumni are making us all proud by being some of the hardest workers and leaders of the Coatesville High School Track Team,
Armond Owens is a versatile runner who runs everything from the 4x100 to the 4x800 meter relay. He has improved his times immensely since last year and is one of the hardest workers on the team.
Dennis Crutchfield was an indoor state medalist in the 4x400 meter relay and is a major factor in the success of the team. He has college in his future and will be attending Bloomsburg University next Fall.
Colin Gaffney is our best 800 meter runner and his times improved tremendously since the beginning of the season.
Robert Yancy was a state qualifier this year during the indoor season and is looking to capture a state medal in the 4x400 relay this spring. He is a talented, quiet leader on the team that gives it everything he has every time he steps on the track.
Watching these young men grow and mature makes all of us at South Brandywine very proud to have taught and coached them.

Visit From Holocaust Survivor!
On Tuesday, February 22, our 8th grade students had the rare opportunity to meet Mrs. Marion Blumenthal-Lazan and to hear firsthand about her experiences as a nine-year old child interned with her family in the German concentration camp of Bergen-Belsen, the same camp in which Anne Frank died. This special program dovetails perfectly with what our students have been learning and reading about in their Language Arts classes.
During Mrs. Lazan’s presentation, she described her life behind the barbed wire fences of the camp and explain the events leading up to her family’s incarceration in Bergen-Belsen and its life-challenging aftermath. Mrs. Lazan’s presentation to our students emphasized the themes of tolerance, hope and perseverance.
Below is are two links of highlighting the letters from our students to Mrs. Lazan.
